Ford has yet again come up with another award winning engine design that have been branded as Eco-Boost and since 2009 these engines have slowly started to gain main stream attention due to the ability of these engines to deliver power that goes beyond the limits of the engine size. The Eco-Boost engine series by this well known automaker has comes with turbo-charges, direct-injection which involves the delivery of highly pressurised fuel in the combustion chamber with precision which reduces the amount of fuel needed for optimal engine performance which simultaneously reduces CO2 emissions to approximately 99g for each kilometre. The 1.0 litre engine has been accepted by the automobile industry as being one of the best examples of engine downsizing without the compromising power, ever.

The traditional perception of size equals power, right has been done away by Ford as their Eco-Boost is redefines what smaller engines are capable of based on the fact that these smaller, lighter engines are riddled with an array of innovations that not only deliver unmatched fuel economy with reduced levels of emissions, but they also deliver equal or better performance. Ford’s EcoBoost engines are able to give consumers a whopping 30 % better fuel efficiency coupled with a 15% reduced level of green house emissions via effective burning of available fuel meaning more power is derived from much lesser fuel.

Unlike its predecessors the block of these Eco-Boost engines are made of cast iron instead of aluminium or alloys, which not only makes it more robust and strong, but it also increases warming time by 50% from a cold start to operating temperature. However, there is a downside due to the cast iron engine as iron is much heavier and thus it considerably increases the weight of the engine block which was behind the abandonment of iron block engines by manufacturers in the last 2 decades despite their strength being acknowledged as being more suitable for high boost turbocharged mechanics. Almost everything about this 3 cylinder engine is unique and exceeding unconventional.

For example these engines do not require timing belt replacements and are maintenance free based on the fact that the belt of these engines are located further inside the engine and run on lubrication that are fed to it directly from the primary supply of engine oil augmenting the lifespan and efficiency of the entire block. Another factor that is truly amazing about the 3 x award winning 1.0 litre engine is its size, the tiny engine is less than 30 centimetres in length and width, and has a height of approximately 21 centimetres. Every component within the engine is individually coated in order to limit friction levels allowing the engine to sustain longer than most other engines of similar size. To make a long story short, we could easily conclude that Ford has outdid itself this time in enhancing their competitive advantage, this time they truly have a winner worth being praised the way it is being praised.
